LG and Samsung keep their rivalry very strong, which is not surprising given that both companies are among the largest tech companies in South Korea, and both are competing in almost the same sectors. That is why it was a bit surprising that after Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold,
LG had not followed suit by revealing a similar device.
Instead, LG chose to launch the LG G8x ThinQ phone that is being sold with an optional detachable protective cover that includes an additional screen allowing users to convert LG G8x ThinQ into a foldable phone. Of course, this does not make LG G8x ThinQ similar to the Galaxy Fold phone,
but this may change in the future because according to a new patent discovered by the LetsGoDigital website, it seems that LG is working on a protective cover for smartphones equipped with a flexible screen.
As you can see in the image above, the phone will be inside the protective cover, as the flexible screen will wrap around the outside of the cover. There are many advantages to this design. One of these advantages is that if the protective cap is damaged, all users need to do is replace it.
This is in contrast to the current design of foldable smartphones as the replacement of its screen may be much more expensive in the event of damage. It also provides users with the option not to use the flexible screen if they prefer. However, we're not sure if there are plans to make this idea into a real product, so try not to raise your hopes right now.
