MediaTek unveils MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor, and confirms its support for 5G
MediaTek hosted a quick press conference in the Chinese capital, Beijing, where it introduced media representatives to its new processor, MediaTek Dimensity 800, the processor that aims to be the beating heart of upcoming mid-range smartphones in 2020. It should be noted that the new MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor includes a modem.
Built-in 5G is a cheap alternative to the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 / L processor that recently made its way into the Oppo Reno 3.
MediaTek did not reveal any specifications but revealed that the processor will be tested at the CES 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, in the early days of the new year.
The expectation is that MediaTek's new MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor will compete with smartphones equipped with the HiSilicon Kirin 800 Series and Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 Series processors.
While the specs list will be revealed later, we know that this processor will feature the MediaTek Helio M70 modem announced by MediaTek earlier this year. This modem can reach a speed of 4.7 Gbps at the download level and a speed of 2.5 Gbps at the level of lifting knowing that this modem supports both independent and non-independent 5G networks.
Currently, this modem is only present in the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 / L processor. Overall, we will likely see the first smartphones with the new MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor early next year.
