Russia confirms that it has successfully tested its Internet
The Internet is designed to be an open space for everyone, and it is not under the control of any particular country or government. However, despite this, many governments around the world have attempted to censor them in one way or another, by restricting the type of content that is permitted to display in their countries.
It is not always appropriate to change DNS or use a VPN to override restrictions, but Russia believes it may have found the solution by creating its own Internet. According to a BBC report, it appears that Russia has successfully tested its Internet.
What does this mean? Well, this means that by creating your own internet, the points that will connect to the rest of the internet around the world will be restricted, as it will give the government more control over the type of content that citizens can access. According to the Russian Ministry of Communications, ordinary users who took part in the test did not notice any changes.
However, according to Justin Sherman of New America, he told BBC: “The Russian government has faced technical challenges in the past when trying to increase control over the Internet, such as its largely unsuccessful efforts to prevent Russians from accessing Telegram's encrypted messaging app. Although there is no more information about this test,
it is difficult to make an accurate assessment of how far Russia has advanced in the path towards creating a localized isolated Internet. ”
