Speedtest app gets VPN feature on Android and iOS platforms

    Speedtest VPN
Ookla, which is behind the Speedtest.net internet speed testing site, has now launched its own VPN service called Speedtest VPN, which is currently in beta and offered as part of the Speedtest app on Android and iOS platforms.
Speedtest VPN works the same way most VPN apps work on these platforms. You press a button and the operating system prompts you to add a VPN to your device, then goes out to roam the free virtual world you want. The entire traffic on your device will now be routed by Speedtest VPN servers, which will reduce your speed but this provides the advantage of data confusion from your internet service provider as well as providing access to blocked sites in your country.
In the current beta stage, the service is provided free of charge within the Speedtest app. Ookla has confirmed that it has plans to offer paid plans in the future when the service leaves the trial phase. However, users will still be provided with 2GB of free internet data every month even if they do not subscribe to the paid plans.

As with every VPN service, there are some security aspects to consider. Needless to say, since the service directs all your data, it deserves to be trustworthy and provides some of the basic security features expected from a good VPN service. One has to be vigilant when the service is offered for free, because having a VPN server is not cheap at all, and any company must have a business model to stick with.
