It’s the go-to messaging app for billions of individuals around the world, but WhatsApp has revealed that its app will pack up on Windows smartphones next week.

While the app is currently available on select Windows smartphone, it'll stop being available on New Year's Eve.

WhatsApp said: “You'll not be ready to use all Windows Phone operating systems after New Year's Eve, 2019, and WhatsApp won't be available within the Microsoft Store after Dominion Day, 2019.”

And the end of support doesn’t end there - WhatsApp also will pack up on several Android smartphones and iPhones within the coming months.

From February 1, people using Android versions 2.3.7 and older will not be ready to create new accounts or reverify existing accounts.

Meanwhile, iPhones running on iOS 8 and older also will stop having the ability to make new accounts or reverify existing accounts from February 1.

If you've got a Windows smartphone, and don’t want to lose all of your chats on New Year's Eve, thankfully there are a reasonably simple thanks to saving your chat history.

Open the chat you would like to export, and tap on Group Info.

Scroll down and tap ‘Export Chat’. You’ll then tend the choice to download the chat with or without media - note the attaching media will generate a bigger chat archive.
