Apple has yet to enter the world of 5G, and current reports indicate that we will finally see some devices that support the 5G networks of the American company later this year. Now there is a new rumor that the Taiwanese company, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, has joined Apple's supply chain and will manufacture units based on mmWave technology.
Industry insiders reveal that Apple's roadmap includes the launch of at least one iPad that supports 5G networks and the launch of several iPhone models that support this new generation of networks,
but the company has not yet decided which company will provide it with this technology.
The difference between mmWave and Sub-6GHz is that the first technology allows data transfer at a faster rate but has much worse coverage compared to Sub-6GHz which is slower in terms of data throughput. It is unclear whether Apple plans to support both standards or just mmWave.
Advanced Semiconductor Engineering competes with TSMC for Apple's contract but uses different technology. ASE uses FC-AiP technology, which is cheaper but uses more units than competing InFO_AiP technology.
