The new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium is now ready for download

    Microsoft Edge 79
Microsoft today introduced a new version of Microsoft Edge for download on Windows and Mac. The new version of Microsoft Edge is based on the Chromium open-source web engine from Google, which makes it similar to Google Chrome in this regard. Microsoft announced a new version of the Microsoft Edge browser in December of 2018 when it decided to abandon its Edge HTML web drive and move to rely on the Chromium web engine.
It was a huge task, and after more than a year of testing, the new version of Microsoft Edge is finally ready. You can download the first stable version of Microsoft Edge for Windows and Mac here.
However, if you're using Windows 10, you'll get the new version of Microsoft Edge as an update at some point in the next few months. The migration will begin in the coming weeks for a limited group of testers who are considered part of the Windows Insider program.
Microsoft Edge synchronizes passwords, preferences, and settings across devices, while Bing allows you to collect rewards only for search. A comprehensive suite of learning and accessibility tools has been incorporated into the new browser. There is also a cached Internet Explorer mode, in case you need access to an old website that requires it.
The new stable version is Microsoft Edge 79 because Microsoft uses Chromium. This will be updated independently approximately every six weeks.
