LG announces new partnerships to build a car entertainment and information system with a digital assistant
LG unveiled the WebOS Auto system in September last year, after partnering with Microsoft. The South Korean company today attracted two other partners, Clarence and Luxoft, to strengthen its infotainment system.
Clarence is a subsidiary of Nuance, which has long competed in the field of voice recognition systems, which Siri is counting on before iOS 11. The purpose of this partnership, of course, is to build a new voice assistant based on the Clarence ARK Kit software development package.
The digital assistant will be able to control different functions in the car from multimedia to navigation. LG and Cerence will provide a turnkey solution to manufacturers.
As for partnering with Luxoft to improve WebOS Auto by adding more digital cockpit features and rear seat entertainment systems. LG targets taxi companies on demand, as well as fleet companies and car manufacturers in general.
LG previously pulled Qualcomm and Volkswagen to its webOS Auto project, along with Here, Mapbox, iHeart Radio, Sony Pictures, and other companies.
