If you are still using an old Android smartphone and rely on WhatsApp to communicate with family and friends, you may want to listen to what we will say now.
The popular WhatsApp chat app currently owned by Facebook has updated its support page to tell everyone that the app will not be supported on Android devices if they are not running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher,
and on iOS devices, if they are not running iOS 9 or higher.
According to Android Central, WhatsApp will stop working on unsupported devices as of February 1, 2020. After this date has passed, users will no longer be able to register or verify their devices to log into the chat platform.
The support page also states that “Since we are no longer actively developing these operating systems, some features may stop working at any time.”
On a similar note, Windows Phone users will no longer be able to use WhatsApp. Either way, if you're still using Windows Phone, Microsoft officially recommends users moving to Android or iOS.
