Former head of Lenovo's smartphone division joins Xiaomi
You may remember Mr. Chang Cheng because of his teasers when he was vice president of Lenovo's smartphone division.
He recently retired from the company, but in a somewhat surprising move, today revealed that he will join Xiaomi.
Today, Xiaomi co-founder Lin Bin posted a photo on the Weibo Chinese social network showing him sitting next to his co-founder of Xiaomi and Mr. Chang Cheng, who recently joined the company.
The post was immediately republished by Chang Cheng with the phrase "Work hard for your dreams."
Mr. Chang Cheng was famous for being the CEO of the ZUK division that was responsible for creating some of the most economical smartphones. The section was eventually closed, but the user interface made its way to Lenovo phones,
including the flagship Lenovo Z6 Pro phone that eventually made its way to global markets.
Mr. Chang Cheng did not reveal his new role in Xiaomi, but in Lenovo, he was behind the first Lenovo Yoga tablet, and he was also behind the development of the Lenovo K900 phone, and the Lenovo Z5 and Lenovo Z6 phones. We are waiting to see if he will head a new sub-brand or be part of an existing team like Redmi, BlackShark or MIUI.
In a statement to the company, Mr. Lei Jun said that Mr. Chang Cheng had “a deep understanding of the sector and very much experience in the consumer electronics field”. He also expects to “provide stronger support to the mobile sector,” whatever that means.
